Friday night Sierra High School witnessed something that has never been seen in the 35 year existence of the school. A varsity football game played on the campus of Sierra and not our district stadium at Harrison High School where the games have been played since the school opened.
An idea from last year that turned into a reality there was much work to be done to get the stadium at Sierra ready, but with the hard work of dedicated individuals that work was accomplished and we turned the tide for Sierra High School and the Southeast community of Colorado Springs.
A special shoutout goes to Marques Ranne, Sierra’s groundskeeper, for the endless hours he has spent getting the grounds ready for this historic event. Mike Musick for his maintenance expertise and ability to trouble shoot problems that came up over the summer.
Another big shoutout does to District Two Athletic Director Dave Hogan for his endless support of this project, and Superintendents Wendy Birhanzel and John Rogerson for their backing to accomplish this task.
We would also like to thank the staff and parents of The Classical Academy. The class they showed for this event and support is unmatched! Gary Geiger, TCA AD, and his team were very understanding of the historic nature of the event and they made the night very special.
Most of all we would like to thank the community and alumni organizations of our school for supporting this idea. We will be building off this success and making the stadium at Sierra even better for years to come so that high school football will always be played on the hallowed grounds of Sierra High School.
