Talk about a winter sports season for the record books! It is not often that a school can tout the success of an entire season and every sport in it. This 2018-2019 winter sports season has the ability to do just that.
The girls swim team at Sierra hasn’t seen that much success in a long time. However, this season they won 3 of their duals against opponents for the first time in 20+ years. Under the coaching of Nick Davenport, they were able to grow from last year and post major successes that haven’t been seen at Sierra in quite some time. Great job ladies and a big shoutout to our coaching staff.
Sierra had two wrestlers qualify for the state tournament this year. Atsamaz Pliev became the first Stallion to place at state with a third-place finish. This was a historic season for the Sierra wrestling program and they are already hard at work in the offseason to build on these successes.
Basketball (Boys & Girls)
Sierra Boys and Girls basketball programs continued the long tradition and legacy of quality basketball at Sierra this year. For the 16th year in a row, both programs qualified for the playoffs and both teams made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Sierra has etched a legacy in the Pikes Peak region and the state of Colorado as a top basketball school that gives teams a run for their money. There are a lot of highlights from this year for both programs and next year will only bring more success for them and Sierra High School.
It doesn’t happen often, but all the sports during the winter season made historic strides for their programs and our school. Stallion Nation has a lot to be proud of and looking forward to future successes.
